Summer break with Highlights

The Sheffield Steelers just finished one of their most successful seasons - with 5 of their 6 league teams entering the final play off's in May, with the following results:

Steelers Women and Superleague team coming 3rd

Steelers 3rd Division team coming 2nd

Steelers Juniors and Division 1, coached by Maurice Hammerton winning their respective leagues.

The other 1st Division team, coached by Tina Gordon only narrowly missed a spot in the play off's, coming 2nd in the central Division 1.

But the summer break gives Steelers little time for rest and rather many highlights in one of the UK's biggest sporting years. 3 Juniors - Harry Brown, James Newton and Joe Williams got selected for the Under 22 European Championships, taking place at Stoke Mandeville next week. Maddie Thompson, 17 and Terry Bywater were selected for the Paralympics in London later this year.

2 other Steelers players - Steve Birkby and Jack Waring had the honour to be selected to carry the olympic torch in Sheffield and Scunthorpe - a once in a lifetime experience for the lads.

Further on you can see Steelers under the name "Steel city wheelers" next week on ITV. We applied for the show "Let's get Gold", but had to change the name due to potential copy right infringments. More info soon to follow.

Steelers are already back at training and trying to sort out new teams for the upcoming season 2012/ 2013. We are especially looking for more women to join our womens team. Please get in contact if interested.
